COVID- 19 Pandemic
We are in the midst of a worldwide pandemic so what can we do to prepare ourselves?
The first thing is arm yourself with information about how the virus spreads and causes infection.
From what we know, contact- through handshakes or touching objects that may have been in contact with an infected individual and droplets- through coughing or sneezing from an infected individual, can spread the virus.
How do we protect ourself?
Stand back. Try to stay clear of people who are coughing or sneezing. The WHO Trusted Source suggests staying at least 3 feet away from people who may be sick. The CDC Trusted Source suggests an even wider berth of about 6 feet.
Wash your hands frequently. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water for at least 20 seconds every time.
Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer if you don’t have access to soap and water. Look for a product that’s at least 60 percent alcohol.
Avoid touching your face. You can easily transmit the virus from your hands to your mouth, nose, or eyes without even realizing it.
Stay home. You may hear this called “social isolation.” Staying away from groups of people may help you avoid being exposed.
Symptoms can develop in 2-14 days, so it is important to quarantine yourself, if there is a risk you may have come into contact with someone infected to prevent further spread.
